The grueling and arduous process of applying to and wringing acceptance from
universities is one of the most important tasks on a new university student's
checklist. However, once that's over and done with, students face another
drawn-out, thankless task: finding affordable student housing. The advent of
the Internet has made the task much easier, since every cafe and hotel
WiFi network can be accessed by the average laptop. But still, students starting
university in Baton Rouge often finding themselves looking for a little help.
If you're one of those students, you've come to the right place.
This article should point you in the right direction.
If you're a student, you're probably also young and tech-savvy,
so you probably don't need to be told that your first stop should be the
Internet. The Internet can be your greatest resource, but it can also be crippling.
You may find your searches drowned in extraneous information or unrelated links
thanks to the advent of search engine optimization. Toronto real estate and
Chicago home loans will be useless to you, so we suggest you include as many
specific terms as possible, including: Baton Rouge, student, housing, apartment,
your price range, and any neighborhoods you've got your eye on.
While you will probably find that King East Lofts are a little beyond your
price range when you're living off of student loans, there are areas of
the city where you should be able to secure decent accommodations. These areas
of course include the neighborhoods around Louisiana State University and Southern
University as well as Melrose Place and Melrose Place East, which are near the
Bon Carre Business Center. Though apartment prices will probably be lowest in
the East Brookstown area of town, we recommend that you avoid this area, as
it's still pretty rough even though it's undergoing some transition.
We recommend that you Google map each listing you check out to discover its
location relative to your school and the less desirable parts of town.
If you or your parents have made a sizeable amount of money on stock trading
or doing scientific research and experimental development, you can probably
afford a nicer place than you will find in the above listed areas. If that's
the case, check out the apartments in the Garden District, where you'll
find the most upscale accommodations. For mid-range living spaces, try the townhouses
in the University Lakes neighborhood and the old houses that have been divided
up into flats that populate Spanish Town, where you'll find other students
like you as well as lawyers to artists.
If apartments are a little too much for you to handle at first, even with decorating
and upkeep tips from the Toronto real estate blogs, you should consider staying
in residence. LSU and Southern both have accommodations available for students
and you can likely secure yourself a place if you apply ahead of time. Both
universities also have online resources to help students who are looking for
apartments hook up with other students who have apartments but are looking for
roommates. |
